Dr. ALEXANDER GOICHMAN
Principal Dentist — Malvern Family Dental & Balaclava Dental CareDr. Alexander Goichman has been practicing clinical dentistry since 2001. Early in his career, Alex recognised that gaining broad experience across multiple dental disciplines—and working alongside specialists such as oral surgeons, prosthodontists, endodontists, and periodontists—would enable him to provide the highest level of care to his patients.As the principal dentist of both Malvern Family Dental and Balaclava Dental Care, Dr. Goichman brings extensive expertise in dental implants, bone grafting, complicated extractions, and root canal treatments. For advanced procedures like root canals, Alex utilises a specialised dental microscope, allowing for greater precision and improved outcomes.He has also studied forensic dentistry, adding another dimension to his comprehensive understanding of dental science.His treatment philosophy is rooted in the belief that, much like medicine, dentistry must begin with a comprehensive and accurate diagnosis — combining skill, knowledge, and the latest technology. This diagnosis is followed by detailed treatment planning and executed with the highest clinical standards.Understanding that most patients prefer convenience, Alex ensures his entire dental team is continually trained to deliver a wide range of treatments at the highest standard, minimising the need to visit multiple specialists.With a background in chemistry, Alex has a passion for dental technology and materials science. He frequently experiments with new materials and protocols to continually improve patient outcomes and practice efficiency.Outside the clinic, Alex enjoys spending quality time with his wife and three children. Dr MARYAM HENEIN
Bachelor of Dental Science
Graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2009 with a Bachelor of Dental Science. She has extensive experience working in diverse settings, including remote Indigenous communities in Darwin, as well as private practices across Melbourne and Port Macquarie. Maryam is passionate about minimally invasive dentistry and believes in prevention as the foundation of oral health. She actively pursues continuing professional development to stay current with the latest dental techniques and best practices.
In addition to her clinical work, Maryam is deeply committed to volunteer dentistry, contributing to dental programs in underserved communities like the Solomon Islands. Fluent in English and Arabic, with beginner skills in Spanish, she balances her professional career with a rich array of interests including AFL (St Kilda FC supporter), Pilates, yoga, art, and travel. Maryam also enjoys spending quality time with her family and her beloved dog, Blue.
Dr. NONU KOHLI
Bachelor of Dental Science
Dr. Nonu Kohli graduated in Dentistry in 2009 and began her career volunteering to provide care for underprivileged communities, witnessing firsthand the profound impact oral healthcare can have on people’s lives.
Since then, Nonu has continued her passion for helping others through dentistry. She treats patients fluently in English, Punjabi, and Hindi. With special interests in aesthetic dentistry—including crowns, bridges, and veneers—and expertise in managing teeth grinding and bruxism, Nonu loves helping her patients achieve healthy, confident smiles.
At Malvern Family Dental, Nonu understands how daunting dental visits can be. Her gentle and patient approach creates a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, where she takes the time to explain treatments thoroughly and answer all questions. She is passionate about educating patients on maintaining excellent oral health and enjoys seeing them leave appointments inspired and empowered to protect their smiles.
Outside of dentistry, Nonu’s adventurous spirit leads her to explore new destinations, meet new people, and indulge in diverse culinary experiences.
RHIANNON KOCH
Oral Health Therapist
Rhiannon is a dedicated Oral Health Therapist with a strong background in preventive and restorative dentistry. Originally from central Victoria, she completed her Bachelor of Oral Health Science at Charles Sturt University and pursued further training in Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry.
With over 20 years of experience as a dental nurse, Rhiannon brings a calm, empathetic approach to patient care, particularly for those with dental anxiety. She focuses on preserving natural teeth through early intervention and prevention and regularly updates her skills with over 80 hours of continued education annually.
Rhiannon provides treatments in restorative and preventive dentistry, periodontics, minimal intervention, paediatric care, and professional teeth whitening.
Outside of work, she enjoys the gym, bushwalking, music, and volunteering with Maneki Neko Cat Rescue.

Reception
Dani recently completed her Bachelor of Science degree at Monash University and brings a warm, professional presence to the front desk. She has just returned from a volunteer placement with Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel’s national emergency medical service, where she also completed a certified first aid and emergency response course.
Her passion for helping others extends beyond her work—Dani also volunteers with children who have special needs. Her compassion, dedication, and positive energy make her a valued member of our team and a kind-hearted contributor to her community.
VAL
Dental Nurse
Val is a dedicated dental nurse who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team, having previously worked as a dentist in Colombia. Her strong clinical background allows her to provide exceptional support to both patients and colleagues, enhancing the quality of care we offer.
Val’s warm and approachable nature, combined with her professionalism and deep understanding of dentistry, helps create a calm and reassuring environment for every patient. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with friends, sharing laughs, and creating lasting memories.
Eileen
Dental Nurse and Reception
Eileen is a highly experienced dental nurse who also provides valuable support at the front desk, bringing over 25 years of expertise to our team. Known for her warm, reliable nature, Eileen plays a key role in ensuring our practice runs smoothly and that every patient feels welcome and cared for.
Outside of work, Eileen enjoys quality time with friends and family. A passionate traveller, she especially loves escaping to sunny destinations where she can relax by the beach—her favourite way to unwind and recharge.
Yael
Practice Manager
Yael, our Practice Manager, brings energy and warmth to the clinic every day. She’s passionate about building genuine relationships with patients and supporting the team to ensure everything runs seamlessly. With a focus on creating a welcoming, positive atmosphere, Yael is the heart of our practice.
Outside of work, Yael is always up for an adventure—whether it’s zip-lining, white-water rafting, or anything adrenaline-filled. She’s also a qualified pastry chef, and her homemade cakes and birthday treats are a much-loved tradition among the team.
