Crowns and Veneers
Crowns
A crown is a cover that sits over the entire tooth used to protect teeth that are badly broken, at risk of fracture (due to decay), large fillings, cracks or root canal fillings. By covering the entire tooth, it will prevent the tooth from breaking in the future.
Depending on the way in which the tooth has broken down, your dentist may also recommend other variations such as onlays or partial crowns.
With new advancements in technologies, crowns can be tailored to precisely match your existing teeth. They may be made of porcelain, Zirconia, metal or a combination of materials. However, all options will result in a comfortable and life-like appearance.
Once we have prepared the tooth for the crown, detailed moulds of your teeth will be taken and sent to our lab to fabricate the restoration. While we wait for it to return, we will fabricate a temporary crown to ensure that the tooth remains protected and aesthetics is restored.
Veneers
Veneers are thin, tooth coloured, porcelain shells crafted to cover the front surface of a tooth. They are a more conservative treatment than a crown and are often used if the underlying tooth is strong and healthy.
Veneers are excellent for treating chipped, discoloured, small or slightly misaligned teeth, especially if these defects affect the front teeth. This makes them an excellent treatment option for cosmetic dental care.
Once we have taken detailed moulds of your teeth we sent it off to our lab which will make a customised veneer for each tooth: this process takes about 2 weeks. While the veneer is being fabricated we will make up temporary veneers so that you don’t have to wait to improve your smile.
